Traffic Records 101

By

Larry Holestine

Data Nexus Inc.

There is a new resource available for traffic safety professionals interested in data collection, management, and use.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration presents Traffic Records 101, an online curriculum for use by state and local traffic safety professionals.  Whether new to traffic records or not, this curriculum provides the basics, as well as, an in-depth understanding of what a comprehensive traffic records system covers; such as, Crash, Roadway, Driver, Vehicle, Injury Control, Citation/Adjudication, Motor Carrier, Exposure, and Data Analysis.

Each module was developed by individuals who are experts in the field of highway and traffic safety information systems.  The course catalog includes topics that detail specific areas and includes an in-depth coverage of the major processes and technologies used in the field.

Once users register, they are able to study at their own pace, complete interesting reading assignments that include links to applicable websites and articles, take examinations on a wide variety of subjects, and track their assignments and scores.  At the end of each module, the user will have the ability to look up which modules have been completed and their final score.

To register and start your Traffic Records 101 course go to the following website:  http://trafficrecords101.net/

As the field of traffic records continues to transform through new technology and information, the curriculum will grow with more advanced courses so you can keep up to date with the latest trends.
