FW: LTAP distribution: NCHRP Synthesis Topic 37-03 Managing selected transportation assets other than pavements and bridges

Hello LTAP & TTAP,

To often our locals do not have an oportunity for input in these national projects.

If you have electronic distribution capabilities please consider forwarding this to your communities. Instructions are included in the message below. Since it's that time of year, this distribution should be included in your 2006 PAR.

Thank you for this consideration,

This transmittal regards NCHRP Synthesis Topic 37-03, Management of Selected Transporation Assets (i.e., assets other than pavements and bridges). This synthesis of practice is being conducted for TRB and NCHRP under the sponsorship of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration. The objective of a Synthesis is to provide an overview of transportation agencies' practices, recent literature findings, and research-in-progress addressing the subject topic. Mr. Michael Markow will be preparing the synthesis report under contract to TRB.  A number of U.S. and Canadian cities and counties are included in this effort.

Following are guidelines TRB has prepared regarding the survey of agency practice for this study.

For your convenience, the survey is being distributed as seven component questionnaires.  Six of these address individual asset categories that are the major subjects of this study:  traffic signals, roadway lighting, signs, pavement striping and markings, culverts, and sidewalks.  Part 7 addresses broader asset management within an agency, and asks for information on interesting or unique management practices for other non-pavement, non-bridge assets.  Please complete the attached questionnaires, or forward individual parts to the most appropriate persons in your agency.   The instructions for completing the survey forms are appended to each of the parts.   The questionnaires are electronic forms, and should be filled out on-line, saved, and emailed back to Mr. Markow.  Also attached is a pdf file of all seven parts of this survey, for you to print if you wish.

The report to be prepared from this information will serve as a resource to local governments, states, and provinces in their efforts to improve their methods and techniques of asset management.

Your agency's response to the survey is extremely important to this study.  Please note that the questions are mostly multiple-choice.  Feel free, however, to include comments in the fields provided or in your email responses.

Please have the completed questionnaires and any supporting materials returned to the contractor, Mr. Michael Markow, at the email address shown on the questionnaire by February 28, 2006.  Once again, the questionnaire is provided in two formats:

1) As seven Microsoft Word electronic forms that can be filled out online, saved, and emailed back, and
2) As a pdf file that can be printed, for your information.

If additional time or information is needed to complete the questionnaire, please contact Mr. Markow via email (mjmarkow@adelphia.net) or by phone at  508-540-5966, or Jon Williams of NCHRP at 202-334-3245.  Thank you very much for your assistance.
