RE: Snow Removal Fatigue
Even with a small crew it's possible to divide the crew for over night
sessions. I send the crew members with children home after midnight and
the crew members without children home before midnight. The reason is
the children require attention and sleep comes after play time which
defeats the purpose of going home to rest. I also let any plow driver
rest as they need, if they are tiered, they can take a break for an hour
or two, but not during commuter time for buses of workers. Having
classes on good nutrition and not fill up with junk food improves
stamina and allows working without becoming fatigued as quickly. I will
when possible send the crew home early to rest before the onset of a
storm. This only works if they do rest and not spend the time running
errands.

Subject: Snow Removal Fatigue
Iowa has had a very long and hard winter. One of our cities has
asked for information on combating fatigue associated with snow
plowing and snow removal. Any information on this would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
